Golden milk

Mix all ingredients in a saucepan and while stirring simmer for about 10 minutes.

Make a nightly ritual of Golden Milk Tea by swapping out the turmeric for 1 teaspoon of Lavender flowers, but strain flowers from tea after simmering.


Ingredients

  • Almond, Coconut, Oat or Whole Milk—2 1/2 cups

  • Fresh turmeric or ground turmeric—1 1/2 teaspoon

  • Stick of Cinnamon or ground cinnamon—1/2 teaspoon

  • Fresh ginger or ground ginger—1/2 teaspoon

  • Coconut oil or ghee—1/2 teaspoon

  • Pinch of black pepper

  • Optional: Honey, Maple syrup, Stevia or other sweetener


The curcumins in turmeric have strong anti-oxidant, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties which can reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. It also supports immune health and joint health. Often added to foods, turmeric can aid digestion and glucose regulation and may aid in brain function. It’s being studied for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Turmeric paste applied to the skin can reduce redness, swelling and inflammation caused by acne, eczema and minor wounds.

Lavender has a long history or soothing nerves and reducing stress. It’s often used to decrease anxiety and help the body and mind relax. Studies show that lavender may increase deep sleep and reduce nighttime awakenings. It can be used in aromatherapy, topically and in tea.
